HNS HOOPS
HNS Men's Basketball League plays Sunday nights in the fall. Teams are setup by school grade and are primarily made up of dads from each of the grades. However, there is always room for non-school dads or "free agents". Contact the league commissioner to join in the fun!
2019 CHAMPIONS
4th gets their 5th and "What's old is new again" in the 3pt Shootout
Capped off by a spectacular windmill dunk by 4th Grade role player Tim Kennedy, 4th grade took the 2019 title for an unprecedented 5-Peat. Kennedy finished the night with 23 points, Matt Jacobs added 17 points and Matt Banks had 9. Inexplicably, Joe Anderson's cutout scored two on a baseline spin move as well. For 5th grade, Jeff Henning and Kyle Costa led the team with 14 points each. The game was hard fought and there was a great crowd on hand to keep both teams on their toes.
In the 3 Point Shootout, Cristo Ortega will return the trophy to it's rightful home in his front window complete with 24-hour spotlights and rotating neon sign. He is the champion again after staying consistent through 3 rounds of shooting with at least 15 in each round. The final round saw him vanquish last years' title holder, Jeff Henning, with 15 points to Henning's 11. But there's no rest for Cristo as Henning appears ready to come back big next year.
So that's it until next year, see you all at Henry's Hi-Life on Thursday 11/21 @ 5:30PM

HOOPS WEEKLY UPDATES
WEEK 2: GUTS, CONTROVERSY
Sept 2nd, 2019
Labor Day is traditionally a rough week for the league because so many are just returning or not able to make games due to trips. But, those who showed up really gave the crowd a thrill tonight. First up was the debut of Kindergarten who fought valiantly but came up JUST shy of a victory against a Sixth Grade team who clearly came for victory and eked out a 51-48 win. Next up was the Eighth Grade squad with their complement of free agents. The Eighth grade team started out strong but were unable to hold off 3rd Grade who put in a great effort to win 54-33.
For the third game of the night, the defending champion 4th grade team defeated 1st grade in a physical game 55-40. The efforts of Matt Jacobs were singled out by many as a primary reason for victory. Unfortunately, an injury to Thomas O'Keefe, a rising star for 1st put a damper on the game. I'm sure the whole league agrees that we wish Thomas a swift recovery!
The final game was by far the best for neutral observers. An incredible effort by both teams with a close score for the entire second half led up to the most controversial play in recent HNS Hoops memory. As Dan Mash hit the floor in the dying seconds of the game, Drew Weimer hit a game winning 3 point shot that took 2nd Grade to it's first W of the season with a score of 46-44. Some members of the 7th Grade team were not happy with the defeat as they are true competitors and played their hearts out. We wish them luck in next week's game to hopefully grab their first win of 2019.

2018 CHAMPIONS
A Dynasty Continues and a new 3pt King
5th grade showed serious grit and heart in keeping the champions on their toes. Kyle McLean put up a good case for league MVP with at least 35 points (for some reason the scorers table stopped counting) as the killer cross-over was in rare form. 3rd put it in final gear though, and closed on a 4th straight title with a 71-61 victory. 3rd had a well balanced attack as usual, with the Hamptons 5 starters all filling the scoresheet. Kennedy passed up on a chance to thrill the crowd with a dunk in the 2nd half but Frank Sentous satisfied the crowd with a dunk attempt of his own.
In the 3pt contest, a record 23 entrants put up their bid for the title. The field closed to 3 after a shoot-off from 3 competitors w/ 13 pts to get the final spot. 3 time champ and oddsmakers favorite Cristo Ortega hit for 13, booking a 3rd place finish. Controversy set in as Jeff Henning needed to beat Joe Anderson's 15 pts for the title. The buzzer and final shot went off as Henning's money ball went up from the corner potentially giving him the win and 16 pts. But replay was unavailable, results were inconclusive and re-shoot was ruled. After another tie at 14, Henning won the title in the 3rd round.
